About us

The Community of Risca East covers an area stretching from Risca Community Comprehensive School in the south almost to Fernlea in the north.

The boundary with Risca West runs mainly along the Ebbw Vale to Cardiff railway line.

A section of the historic Monmouthshire to Brecon canal can be seen along the lower part of the Community Council area. This provides residents with leisure activities such as walking, cycling and fishing.

For those more active residents, the iron age fort at Twm Barlwm and Cwmcarn Forest Drive is within walking distance across the top of the mountain.

Risca East, together with Risca Town Council, was formed in 2012 as the result of a referendum held to decide whether the residents of Risca wanted to have a community council.

The Community Council comprises the three wards of Ty Sign, Pontymister Upper and Trenewydd. It has approximately 2,797 properties with an electorate of 4,611 (as at 2013)

There are 9 Community Council seats.

The Community Council meets regularly on the third Thursday of the month at 5:30 p.m. and holds its meetings in St David’s Church Hall on Thistle Way.
